The Nanny
The Nanny is an American television sitcom aired from November 3, 1993, to May 12, 1999, and starred Fran Drescher as Fran Fine, a charming and bubbly Jewish Queens native who casually becomes the nanny of three motherless children from the New York/British upper class. The Nanny took much of its inspiration from Drescher's personal life, involving names and characteristics based on near relatives and friends. The show earned one Emmy Award, out of a total of thirteen nominations, and Drescher was twice nominated for a Golden Globe as well as for an Emmy.
One of the more memorable episodes was the season one finale, "I Don't Remember Mama," in which Fran accompanies Sheffield's youngest daughter, Grace (Madeline Zima), to a mother-daughter beauty pageant.
The Nanny 1 ep 22 - I Don't Remember Mama
Since the death of his wife, Maxwell consciously avoided the family from celebrating mother day. Instead, he used to take the children to a country club where the children can entertain themselves and hopefully prevented them from thinking about their mother. Coincidentally, this time there was a Mother-Daughter Beauty Pageant at the country club. Together with Fran, Gracie registered as contestants. However, one of the rivals bullied her when she found out that Fran was her nanny, and that she had no mother. Gracie ran away with tears.
Grace admits her anger is not grief for missing her deceased mother, but anger at herself for not remembering anything about her mother. Maxwell realizes he has been approaching Sara's death all wrong especially with Grace.
